What exactly makes a decision ethical? The problem with ethics is that what may seem morally right (or ethical) to one person may seem appalling to another. This workshop will not provide you with an easy way to solve every ethical decision you will ever have to make. It will, however, help you define your ethical framework to make solving those ethical dilemmas easier. We'll also look at some tools that you can use when you're faced with an ethical decision. The Advanced Grant Writing class will focus on individualized feedback of proposals and related proposal materials prepared by the participants. Group discussions will focus on problems encountered during the proposal preparation period to develop strategies to overcome the identified problems. This intensive, hands-on class will familiarize participants with the process and practice of mediation and give a working understanding of the alternative dispute resolution continuum. We emphasize the mediation skills of reflective listening, clarifying through restatement, acknowledging, questioning, reframing, issue clarification, de-escalating emotions, and others. Students will practice in small groups with the help of skilled mediator coaches. |
